Case Studies - Royal Shakespeare Company
The Royal Shakespeare Company is one of the most famous classical theatre companies in the world. Situated in Stratford-upon-Avon, the RSC offices had been located in adjoining buildings of the well known Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre buildings. As part of an exciting transformation of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre to be completed by 2010, over one hundred RSC staff were moved in a complete office relocation to a modern custom built office complex.
Challenges
The old Royal Shakespeare Theatre was well loved by many, however it was widely accepted there were many shortcomings to the building. The RSC staff were spread across many offices, interconnected by tight winding corridors and hundreds of steps. Providing sufficient manpower to cope with this challenging building was vital in providing a smooth move out of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre and Swan Theatre buildings.
Approach
After an initial visit from a team of Why Wait Commercial Removals' surveyors and project managers, the move details and logistics were calculated. Given the scale of this move, a complete move solution was presented by our surveyors to the senior RSC project team. Presenting complete solutions to our customers allows our experienced staff to demonstrate their understanding of the complex move requirements and provides an excellent opportunity to answer any questions or concerns associated with a large move.
Preparation & Planning
Preparation prior to moving is always important, but in a move of this size preparation is vital. Several visits were made by our senior operations staff prior to the move; to observe particular areas of the site and to check on preparation progress being made by RSC staff. These visits ensured that our staff were fully aware of their environment during the move and that RSC staff had sufficient preparation support leading up to the move.
Coordination & Assistance
As the move planning progressed, a requirement developed to provide packing assistance to RSC staff responsible for packing large areas. Additional staff were supplied prior to the move to pack these areas and provide general packing advice to all RSC staff.
Success!
After several months of planning and three days of intense activity, the RSC had been successfully moved to their new modern offices. Over a thousand boxes, hundreds of PCs and supporting IT equipment and furniture were all moved to plan resulting in a highly successful move.
